Skincare – Clarisonic Mia 2

About three years ago I first heard about the Clarisonic devices. Throughout the years I have seen this item coming up in favourite videos on YouTube. Since this skincare device is rather on the pricey side (149 euro) I had a hard time committing to buying this product. It took me about 2 and a half years before I decided to go ahead and see what all the fuss was about. The clarisonic can best be described as a toothbrush but for your face.
I read a lot of reviews and most were very positive in saying that this is a must in your skincare routine. Knowing that I barely have any skincare routine (removing my make-up with a cleansing milk) I thought that this device would really make a difference for my skin.
I have had the Clarisonic Mia 2 in the purple version since September 2014. I’ve used it every day before going to sleep. I first remove my make-up the way I did before with the cleanser and afterwards used the Clarisonic with the same cleanser as an extra part of my getting ‘unready’ routine. I have seen that even if I remove the make-up by hand first, that there is still a lot of make-up residue left on my clarisonic brush. So it is clear that the Clarisonic does indeed remove better and has a deeper cleaning routine than what you can do by hand yourself.
I however must be honest. That is about the only difference I have seen with this device. There is no noticeable difference in the feeling of my skin (not necessarily softer or more clear than before). I have a fairly dry skin but don’t have a lot of problems with breakouts. Maybe if you have some troubles with acne this device can really make a difference for you. For me it has been added to my skincare routine, but hasn’t changed my skin (or it is not noticeable anyway).
You regularly have to renew the brushes (they say about every 3-4 months). However the brushes from clarisonic itself are about 25 euro (and more) a piece. Now say what you want but that is one expensive brushhead (for one already very expensive device). I therefore searched for some alternatives on eBay. I found one for about 5 euro and received it today. You can see the new brush on the second and third picture. So far it looks good and it is very soft. You can also buy different types of brushes. I got the sensitive one since I wanted it to be as similar as possible to the original one the Clarisonic came with.
All in all I will still use this device. Not because of the wonderful things it does to me but just because I have it now and therefore it can not hurt to add it to my routine (also otherwise it would be a waste of money). In general I think if you want to try things out with devices to clean your skin you can find a lot of other cheaper alternatives.
